Large flag flies over Marion

Posted: Updated:

MARION -- Saturday, over a hundred people showed up at Black Diamond Harley Davidson for a flag raising ceremony to honor our nation's heroes.

Recently, Black Diamond installed an 80 foot flag pole. Saturday afternoon, they started flying a 20x30 United States American flag.

Some veteran non-profit groups, like Project Diehard, were set up to raise awareness about veteran suicide and share resources for help.  The founder, Army veteran Brian Gibson, says this event gave him the opportunity to reach veterans who may be in need.

"It took other brothers and sisters to talk to me and that helps. So, if they can come and talk, that's our goal," said Gibson.

Shad Zimbro, one of the owners of Black Diamond, said it's been a goal of their's to hang a large flag above the store. He says Memorial Day weekend seemed like the perfect time to make it happen.

The flag will hang year round.
