CARLYLE -- Pinckneyville is celebrating a state championship. This one comes in Bass Fishing.
Seniors Kyle Kreger and Dalton Pyatt had a share of the lead after day one. The Pinckneyville duo came to the scale on the final day of the IHSA's 10th State Bass Fishing Championship needing six pounds, six ounces to take the lead. Their five fish limit weighed more than eight pounds. The Panthers' two day total of 17 pounds, eight ounces was enough to hold on to the top spot, and earn the school's first bass fishing state title.
As far as other area teams, Herrin finished tenth, a spot ahead of Goreville. Centralia wound up 33rd. Crab Orchard and Mt. Vernon were shutout for a second straight day.
