Marion City Council approves proposals working to improve HUB

Posted: Updated:

MARION -- The Marion City Council tackled several agenda items Monday night, including paying thousands of dollars worth of improvements at the HUB Recreation Center.

During the meeting, HUB General Manager Chris Georgantas presented an Energy Proposal for Efficiency and Operational Capability, including a $65 thousand lighting proposal that he said will save money in a short amount of time. He also pitched a nearly $7 thousand hand dryer proposal which he said will reduce costs of paper towels and ultimately save the HUB additional money. He said both proposals will be paid for with TIF funds.

The board approved two of the three proposals, denying the Generator Transfer Switch Proposal.

One board member expressed frustration about taking care of things that weren't taken care of when the facility was first built in 2014.

"We have to address it now to prevent further damage to the building and hopefully stop the bleeding there," said Marion Mayor Anthony Rinella. "Our concern right now is to repair the building and then sit down and have discussions about is someone at fault?"
