Local Girl Scout troop hopes to empower young girls with career fair

Posted: Updated:

MARION -- It was an empowering day for girls at Marion Junior High School. Girl Scout Troop 8869 held a Career Fair showcasing women from all different walks of life.

The young girls met with professionals in the medical field, law enforcement, event planning, and family services Saturday. There were about twenty professionals on hand, even News Three's own Evie Allen took part.

Teen organizers say they hope the event inspired the girls to either want to join Girl Scouts or not quit when they get older.

"I have gained so many social skills, worked on so many different things like citizenship, proper citizenship, doing so much for our community. To give back to those who gave to us," said Savannah Sheffler, co-organizer and Girl Scout.

"I just think it's really important for girls as they go into high school to stick with it because there are a lot of opportunities that just awaits them," said Victoria Shore, Senior Girl Scout.

The goal of the event is to encourage girls to be anything they want to be.

This is the second year for the event. Organizers hopes to make this an annual event.
