Strawberry Picking at Hallsberry Farms

Posted: Updated:

BUNCOMBE, Ill. -- Mid-May marks the start of strawberry season and at Hallsberry Farms, that means families coming together.

"I get a lot of moms with children that come out," Manager Robert Heite said. "They make a day of it with the camera and everything like that."

It's the first time visiting for Erin Pinkston and her son, "We brought our friends and they can just play and have a good time."

However, Heite says strawberry picking is often a family tradition.

"A lot of kids come down to visit their parents for Father's Day from Saint Louis and Chicago, they always want to take berries back with them," Heite said.

Heite also mentioned that there are multiple types of strawberries, which bloom throughout the nearly five-week season, so there are always ripe ones to pick.

But, for Pinkston and her son, it's more about having fun than finding the perfect strawberry, "Now that I found it, I don't see why we wouldn't come back multiple times. It's been awesome."

Hallsberry Farms is open Monday - Saturday from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. And on Sunday from noon to 6 p.m. For more information, click here
