Murphysboro -- Several girls participated in the “Princess for a Day" event and got the ultimate princess treatment.

Murphysboro Main Street hosted the event and told News 3 about 60 young girls participated. They did everything from coloring pictures of their favorite princesses to receiving makeovers at 17th Street Warehouse.

Proceeds benefit Murphysboro Main Street, a group working to promote the historical preservation, history, culture, architecture, and public use of Murphysboro's traditional downtown area.

"Murphysboro Main Street is trying to preserve historical parts of our Main Street downtown, and try to liven what's already there and make improvements," said Jill Wilson, from Murphysboro Main Street.

Organizers plan to hold the event again next year.

"It was really nice to see girls excited and get royal treatment and meet princesses," Wilson said.
