Volunteers from local churches help with community projects

Posted: Updated:

WSIL -- Nearly a thousand volunteers from area churches tackled dozens of community service projects from Mt. Vernon all the way down to Alto Pass.

"I just think there's a lot of need. We're trying to help all non-profit groups, there's a lot of of folks that just don't have the funds to get stuff done that they need to," said Jason Thrash, pastor at Cornerstone Church in Marion.

Thrash says his congregation is one of two large local churches who decided to hold a day of community service.

"It's putting actions to our words. We can talk about what we should do in our church building but we've got to do stuff beyond our church walls," said Pastor Jared LeCrone of Central Christian Church in Mt. Vernon.

Both Thrash and LeCrone say the event was about showing the community they're here to help.

They hope the day of service continues for years to come.
