Color run raises money to help veterans

WILLIAMSON COUNTY -- More than a thousand people participated in Saturday's "Almost 5k Color Run" to support This Able Veteran.

"Our goal is to bring the awareness, and to bring into light, the fact that there is a path through suffering," said Behesha Doan.

Doan founded the organization hoping to aid veterans who suffer from post traumatic stress disorder by providing them with service dogs.

"I think that's a big issue in our world today and I really think they are making a difference in our world," said Julie Hoskins, who organized the race.

Hoskins joined This Able Veteran after she fell in love with their work and the people they help.

"Its veterans, everyone should want to help veterans. It's a great cause and what this organization is doing is something that no one else is doing. They're unique, they're different," said Hoskins.

Doan hopes that runners see the similarities between their race and a veteran's struggle.

"To recognize that the healing path may not always be easy, just like running this race may not always be easy, but when you come across that line and know you're home, that's the feeling they get to have is the feeling that our veterans get to have when they really face whats going on, paired with those dogs and they get to come home, so its sort of metaphorical, there's a race to be run," said Doan.
