Bookworm Bookstore closing in May

Posted: Updated:

CARBONDALE -- Owners of the Bookworm Bookstore in Carbondale plan to close up shop next month.

Bookworm has been at the Eastgate Shopping Center for 17 years.

The owners had plans to sell the store to someone else, but those plans fell apart.

They planned to retire regardless, but still hope to sell the place.

"As the process gets closer to closing, we would entertain any proposal right up until the end because I just think it's a shame that a university community in particular couldn't have an independent, local bookstore," co-owner Carl Rexroad said.

Bookworm will be open until at least May 5, depending on inventory.
