Green Dawgs Day - WSIL-TV 3 Southern Illinois

Green Dawgs Day

Posted: Updated:

CARBONDALE -- Those in Carbondale got a free day of outdoor fun Sunday, thanks to a student grant.

Katy O'Keefe wrote the green fund grant to create "Green Dawgs Day." A day to celebrate and participate in outdoor recreation at touch of nature, free of charge.

Students and community members joined together at the environmental center. For some, this was a day for facing fears.

"At Touch of Nature we say expand your comfort zone and get into your stretch zone, so its basically a space where you're going to grow and discover things about yourself. So, getting people to do something like the zip line or the pampered pole forces you to kind of get in that stretch zone and really do something new." said O'Keefe.

O'Keefe says she hopes people connected with the outdoors.. The day provided chances to hike, zip line, and much more.
