SIUC Physics Department joins Thomas School on STEAM night

Posted: Updated:

CARBONDALE -- Thomas School held a STEAM night, encouraging children to get involved with science, technology, engineering, art and mathematics.

The SIUC Physics Department gave students an opportunity to look through high tech solar telescopes. NASA paid for some of the equipment for a research project at SIUC.

Children glanced up at the sun and some even watched the sunset.

"Even as young as second grade, they start to have a little bit of an interest in science and they wonder what's going on, so they get a little bit out of this and it gives them a little bit of a boost to develop that curiosity to learn more," said Bob Baer, from the SIUC Physics Department.

If you're interested in participating, the SIU Carbondale Physics Department will hold a free public astronomy observation at the Neckers observation deck. That event is on April 22nd and starts at 8 p.m.
