Flamm Orchards prepares for freezing temperatures

Posted: Updated:

COBDEN -- This weekend is expected to be very cold, with temperatures expected to dip well below freezing.

Local orchard owners say there isn't much they can do to protect their peach and apple trees.

But Jeff Flamm, owner of Flamm Orchards in Cobden, tells us he started covering his field of strawberries in the fall.

Flamm said, "If it gets any colder than we pump water on here and make a layer of ice on top of the cover and that gives us extra insulation then you start benefiting from the warmth coming from the ground."

Flamm is hoping his peach and apple crops make it through the cold snap on their own.
