Storm damages several properties in Raleigh

Posted: Updated:

RALEIGH -- Video from Larry Grisham's security camera at his farm on Raleigh Church Road captured Tuesday's storm tearing apart one of his sheds.

"That was my machine shed," Grisham said. "(The storm) picked it up, twirled it around and threw it in the trees."

Grisham said he was inside his home when the storm hit, unaware of what was happening outside.

"It knocked the windshield out of the combine, the side windows and the side windshield on the other side, busted it up," Grisham said.

Grisham's property wasn't the only one damaged by severe weather Tuesday.

A few homes on Route 34 in Saline County saw damage as well, including this grain bin tossed off to the side of a ripped-up farm shed, and then there's the Oglesby Farm.

Strong winds nearly knocked over one of the barns and completely destroyed a new grain bin.

"It's pitiful, really," family friend Charles Maloney said. "You don't know til you get to cleaning it up what it really amounts to."

Maloney believes the barn and the grain bin are total losses, while Grisham is optimistic his farm and bulldozing business will survive.

"It was kind of exciting but nobody got hurt," Grisham said of the storm. "The rest of it's metal and wood."

Grisham hasn't met with an insurance adjuster yet, but he believes the storm caused at least $100,000 worth of damage.
