Tornado and wind damage in Williamson County

Posted: Updated:

WILLIAMSON CO. -- Strong winds from a tornado cut a path of damage across parts of southern Illinois. Those winds caused damage to homes, businesses, outbuildings and even toppled some very large trees.

Damage has been scattered around the region, including Williamson County. Sheet metal and debris were scattered across Fowler School Road near Maverick Ranch. Just down the road on Old Frankfort Road, this house appeared to be lifted from it's foundation, and dropped back down, causing significant damage and scattering debris across the ground.

Farther to the east, we found significant tree damage on Alleghany Road, which is just off Paulton Road. Trees were snapped, road signs pulled out of the ground, and large trees falling back like dominoes.

A lot of cleanup work has already been done, but for some of us there is still a long way to go, so it's always a good idea to give people their space as they are cleaning up from the remnants of this tornado. If you see any debris or downed power lines, be sure to call authorities and avoid them.
