Terri Bryant defeats GOP primary challenger

MURPHYSBORO -- State Rep. Terri Bryant won the Republican primary race for state representative for the 115th district.

Bryant fended off a challenge from Republican Paul Jacobs.

Jacobs made Bryant's budget vote last summer a central issue of his campaign.

Bryant defeated Jacobs 55 percent to 45 percent.

She called it a hard-fought race, thanked her supporters and reached out to those who didn't vote for her.

"I've heard the concerns of the folks who voted for Dr. Jacobs and I want to applaud him for a race well-run," said Bryant. "Now, we want to come together and certainly move on to win in November. I think we have the better message and I think that's going to resonate going forward, Republican to Democrat."

Bryant will face Democrat Marsha Griffin in November. Bryant defeated Griffin for the seat in 2016.

The 115th district covers all of Jefferson County and part of Jackson, Perry, Union and Washington counties.
