WSIL -- The results are in for the candidates in Illinois' 12th Congressional District.

Republican Mike Bost has served the 12th District since 2015. Before that, Bost served in the Illinois house for 20 years.

He won a primary challenge from Preston Nelson, a 27-year-old Libertarian and former model.

The Associated Press has declared Bost the Winner.

He says now it's time to remind voters why he's the best choice come November.

"We're doing the things we need do. We're creating jobs. We're making sure Illinois coal is coming back. We're making sure Illinois Steel is coming back. We're making sure our National Security is taken care of."

St. Clair County State's Attorney Brendan Kelly faced off in the Democratic primary with David Bequette.

He's a former Marine and government contractor who also started multiple businesses.

"I think people know we can't let anymore life long politicians or a powerful few ignore the needs of southern Illinois. We've got to show some courage and we gotta step away from the same old arguments and party lines and remember that our leadership is supposed to be about service to our country."
