MTVHS demolition

Posted: Updated:

MT. VERNON -- With students in the new multi-million dollar high school, the Mt. Vernon High School administration is tasked with taking down the old building.

Demolition crews began tearing out windows, doors and other items weeks ago.

Now crews are working to pull usable items from the old high school for use elsewhere.

"Just stuff we do not need here, but is still usable. Instead of going and getting hauled off, they can be used. It's reusable. It was in service until we took it out of service," said director of facilities Brian Rightnower.

Items being reused include fire alarm equipment, that will be offered to the district's feeder schools.

Rightnower expects demolition to be completed by this summer.
