Teen arrested for Jefferson County school threat

Posted: Updated:

JEFFERSON CO. -- Deputies arrested a 13-year-old boy for threatening to shoot up his school.

Jefferson County Chief Deputy Clint Taylor said the boy made the threat on social media on Saturday.

He threatened to carry out a shooting at the school, which is located in rural Jefferson County, on Monday.

Within hours, he was arrested and booked into the Franklin County Detention Center.

He will be charged for Class-X felony terrorist threats.

"We took this threat very serious and immediately began investigating it," said Taylor.

In recent weeks, across the nation, a number of teens have made similar threats on their schools.

"I want to make it clear. Weekday, weekend, noon or midnight if we discover these threats, they will be immediately investigated," said Taylor. "If there is any evidence of wrong doing we will be making an arrest. This nonsense can not continue."
