Anna VFW needs help fixing its roof

Posted: Updated:

ANNA -- For several months, veterans at the Anna VFW have been trying to patch up their roof.

"Everytime we patch one, another one pops up," building manager Mark Haddick said.

Haddick said storms in April made a bad problem worse: A deteriorating roof started leaking in several spots.

Haddick tried filing a claim with the insurance company but the company denied the claim.

"They said it was an old roof, it's just normal wear and tear, that's going to happen," Haddick said.

And now the insurance company is dropping the Anna VFW altogether.

Haddick said the group rents the mess hall for fundraisers but they struggle to book events with water everywhere.

"Nobody wants to have an event or a wedding reception or a band, whatever, in a hall that's got ceiling tiles missing," Haddick said.

So now they're hosting a fundraising campaign called the "Raise the Roof" drive to cover the cost of repairs.

Haddick said they'll need anywhere from 50-to-60 thousand dollars and they're nearly a third of the way there.

"Any donations are greatly accepted," Haddick said.

They accept donations at their location, 70 VFW Lane in Anna.

They also have a Go Fund Me page to raise money online. You can find that here.
