Historic sword for sale

Posted: Updated:

BENTON -- A piece of local history is now up for grabs.

A sword belonging to General John A Logan is on display at County Seat Antique Mall in Benton.

Local collector Joe Sprague bought the sword in an estate sale in 2016.

The sword previously belonged to the family of former Illinois senator Gene Johns.

It's a piece that Sprague says is rare for a private collector.

"Most general swords are in museums, libraries or college of some form. So its very unique, very rare to have it in private hands." Sprague says.

According to the anitque mall's owner, the sword has brought in collectors with more historical pieces, including a land grant signed by President Lincoln.
