Neighbors concerned after weekend shooting

Posted: Updated:

HARRISBURG-- On Saturday, an early morning shooting had people in Harrisburg jumping from their beds wondering what had happened. Now, they say, they wonder about their safety.

The quiet neighborhood near the Dorrisville Baptist Church is recovering after a shooting Saturday morning left many like Samantha Adams questioning their safety.

"It's scary," she said, "I don't want to be here around it.>

Folks in the neighborhood of south Holland and Dorris Street said early Saturday morning, they heard four gunshots ring out, to come outside to find at least one hitting this house.

Adams, along with her sister Hannah Johnson, moved back to Harrisburg with their mother and children only recently.

They said their children were asleep when it happened and keeping them from experiencing that fear is a godsend.

"It's a blessing in itself because if the girls were awake, they'd freak out," Hannah Johnson said.

Police quickly located and arrested Gerald Williams who was found with stolen handgun thought to have been used in the shooting.

This isn't Williams' first run in with the law either.

Williams has four other felony charges out of Saline County on his record and the most recent, illegal weapons possession, on his record in December.

The sisters said they're thankful he's now in jail and they can sleep a little easier at night.

"I'm just glad they got him. He's off the street and it's done. Hopefully there ain't no one else, and hopefully there ain't no more," Johnson said.

Williams was still being held in the Saline County Jail as of Monday night.
