Saluki baseball signs four year old battling cancer

Posted: Updated:

CARBONDALE--  While the February football signing period is set to start Wednesday, the Baseball Salukis had a special signing Tuesday afternoon.  The Dawgs signed brothers Bryson and Bradyn Reed of Johnston City.

Bryson is four years old and has been fighting kidney cancer.

He's joining the Salukis as part of the friends of Jaclyn foundation, a group that pairs children fighting with cancer with local teams.

The Salukis are happy to welcome the Reeds to their family, who will together be enjoying their first Saluki ball game this spring.

"I think this is going to be a big change for us. We're going to try and start taking part in as many home games as we can, and who knows what the future brings. Maybe we'll even go see them on the road, when it's possible for us," said John Reed, Bryson's father.

The Reeds will have their own locker and be with the team throughout the year, health permitting.

The four year old goes in for his one year checkup Friday, hoping to be told he's officially cancer-free.
