WSIL -- A Jackson County eatery had to close for a couple days in December after the health inspector noted 17 violations. Three of those violations at Happy Reunion in Carbondale were deemed critical.

Five points were lost because fried chicken was being stored at 105 degrees, it's supposed to be 141 or warmer. Five more points were taken away because an employee was seen just rinsing their hands with water after handling raw chicken and not using soap. A total of six points were lost because a bowl with raw chicken wasn't properly washed and was used again for cooked items. There also wasn't enough bleach in the cleaning bucket. Employees were reminded that needed to be updated every four hours.

There were several cleaning violations too.The health inspector suspended Happy Reunion's food service permit for two days. The restaurant fixed the noted problems and the permit was re-instated. Happy Reunion has been placed on a monthly inspection schedule.

Vienna Diner earned an 81. The Johnson County inspector found two critical violations there. Four points were taken away because a sanitizer bucket was being stored in a waitress hand sink and another four points were deducted because the rear screen door had cracks and was not tight fitting. Some food items were being stored uncovered and/or on the floor of the walk in cooler. That was a two point loss. Several other cleaning problems were found around the kitchen as well.

John John's BBQ in Colp got a 90. One critical violation was found there. A door needed weather stripping to keep pests out. The inside of the microwave needed to be cleaned and some items in the refrigerator needed to be covered.

Wok 'n Roll in Harrisburg got a 94 from the Saline County inspector. No critical violations were found, but the inspector took away two points because food needed to be covered in the walk in cooler. Items also needed to be labeled properly.

Block and Barrel Deli in West Frankfort lost two points in its most recent inspection. There was some ice build up in the freezer that needed to be cleaned.
