Families remember Kentucky school shooting victims

Posted: Updated:

MARSHALL COUNTY, KY -- The families of Bailey Holt and Preston Cope shared memories of the two teens, killed in a shooting at Marshall County High School on Tuesday.

"Preston and Bailey were in Kindergarten right beside each other, and so they started school together and then they ended school together," said Bailey's aunt Tracy Tubbs.

Tubbs described Bailey as a quiet, loving girl.

"She was a sweatshirt kind of girl every day, jeans, converse, but she was comfortable in her own skin," Tubbs said.

And she says Bailey's actions always spoke the loudest.

"Instead of a normal night out with a 15 year old to the movies, any time we were in town she would spend that time with her cousins," Tubbs said. "Not because she was told to ,but because she wanted to."

Jackie Reid, a friend speaking on behalf of the cope family, remembered Preston as an avid baseball player and St. Louis Cardinals fan.

"His dad speaks about one of the things that, one of the greatest opportunities that Preston had was to be able to play at Busch Stadium," Reid said. "He said that's memory that they're going to hold onto forever."

Preston also loved history.
"In the past year they took a trip and Preston got to choose where they went - different places like Gettysburg, and places like that. But he loved history, he loved outdoors, and most of all he loved his family very much, Reid said."

They described the outpouring of support from the close-knit community And say despite the pain and anger they feel… its comforting to know their community stands behind them.

"This act of violence that was intended to inflict incredible pain has done quite the opposite, only reinforcing our family and friends and community to simply say not today Satan," Reid said.

Funerals for both Bailey and Preston will take place Sunday.

Bailey's funeral will be at 1:00 p.m. at the Twin Lakes Worship Center.

Preston's funeral will take place in the Marshall County High School gym at 3:00 p.m.
