SIU women improve to 6-2 in the MVC

CARBONDALE - Game one of the doubleheader at the arena on Sunday afternoon featured SIU and Valparaiso.

The teams battled through the first half the Salukis held a 35-29 lead at the break.

Southern led by as much as 18 in the third quarter before the Crusaders mounted a comeback.

The Saluki lead was down to four by the end of the third and Valpo made it a two-point game 20 seconds into the final quarter.

But the Salukis held on down the stretch to take it 74-63.

Makenzie Silvey led the way with a team-high 19.

Nicole Martin added 18 while Kristen Nelson had ten.
