SIU sweeps season series against Northern Iowa for the first time since 2003

CARBONDALE - SIU knocked off Northern Iowa at home on Sunday afternoon.  The win marked the first time in 15 years that Southern sweeps the season series against the Panthers.

Southern set the tone early with four three-pointers in the game's first ten minutes.

But the game remained close and SIU led 25-21 at halftime.

SIU trying to pull away in the second half.  A 12-1 run midway through the half game SIU a 17-point lead, their biggest lead of the ballgame.

The Panthers did not go down without a fight though.  A late 8-0 run pulled Northern Iowa back within eight.

But the Salukis remained tough down the stretch to win it 64-53.

Sean Lloyd led the way for the Dawgs with 15 points.

Armon Fletcher and Marcus Bartley each added 12.  Bartley has 24 points in two games against Northern Iowa this season.

SIU returns to action Wednesday when they host Indiana State.
