Snow and ice cleanup continues

Posted: Updated:

WILLIAMSON CO. -- Thousands experienced an ice storm then snow over just a few days, creating new challenges for people trying to get everything cleaned up.

"[We're] doing it as fast as we can to get everybody cleared off as soon as possible," said Jarrod Morse, the owner of The Ground Guys.

Crews are going around clearing lots across southern Illinois. Some parking lots still have plenty of ice.

"A lot of people, they do a 2-inch trigger where they don't want anything done, unless the snow is two inches," Morse said. "That's why sometimes you'll see a lot of parking lots and businesses with snow still on them."

Morse explained how the challenge isn't just getting rid of the snow, but it's the layers of precipitation, especially the thick layer of ice underneath the snow. It's the reason they're plowing everything off then applying ice melt.

"The snow on top of that, it's a real issue, because once we clear it, then you have nothing but a solid sheet of ice," Morse said. “We’re out there trying to do our best to get everybody cleaned up.”
