Duckworth: new net neutrality laws bad for small business

Posted: Updated:

WSIL -- U.S. Senator Tammy Duckworth predicts the changes to federal net neutrality laws will be bad for students and small businesses.

Duckworth said Americans may have to pay more for internet access to certain websites or have their service slowed down.

She said believes small businesses are at risk of being pushed out by larger corporations. She also said students could feel the effects when it comes to online research.

"I can't understand why the Trump Administration would work toward making democracies free and not open, why they would not allow people, all Americans, to have open access to the internet," Duckworth said.

Duckworth compared internet access to electric utilities, saying those utilities aren't slowed down between houses.

The Trump administration argues the new rules will promote innovation and help the economy.
