Cold doesn't stop 84-year-old Cambria man from running

CARTERVILLE -- Dozens of people turned out early Saturday morning for the annual Snowman Shuffle 5k at John A. Logan College.

At the start of the race, temperatures hovered in the single digits and runners bundled up to keep warm.

However, the chilly six degrees didn't stop 84-year-old Charles Stinson of Cambria from getting out and running the race.

He said the cold doesn't keep him from doing his favorite thing and doesn't change his training routine.

"I've been running for 36 years.I just train 4-5 days a week. I run, I bike and I exercise with weights so I just try to stay in shape," Stinson said.

Stinson said over the years he has ran between 400-500 5k races.

He said the only thing he does different when temperatures get this cold is add extra layers to keep warm.

Stinson finished the race at just over 39 minutes, a time that he said was far from his best.
