Herrin crash victims identified

UPDATE: TUESDAY. JANUARY 2, 2018 - 3:00 P.M.

HERRIN -- Police have identified two victims of a Saturday morning crash in Herrin.

Herrin police said 31-year-old Ashley Beck was fleeing from police in a Jeep when she hit a woman in another Jeep.

Beck was pronounced dead at the scene.  

The woman in the other Jeep, 26-year-old Amber Mitchell of Johnston City, was pronounced dead at Herrin Hospital. 


HERRIN -- Two people have died after an erratic driver crashed into another vehicle. 

Herrin Police say around 1 a.m. Saturday they observed a car driving "extremely erratically." They say the suspect vehicle was driving at an excessive rate of speed and was running stop signs. The vehicle did not stop for police and was involved in a severe crash with another vehicle at the intersection of 13th Street and Herrin Road.  

The driver of the suspect vehicle was pronounced dead at the scene. 

The driver of the second vehicle was later pronounced dead at Herrin Hospital. A juvenile passenger in the second vehicle is being treated and is expected to be released. 

Names are being withheld pending notification of family.
