Carbondale escape room adds Christmas-themed room

CARBONDALE -- The Panic Room in Carbondale is adding some festive fun this holiday season with a new Christmas-themed room.

The premise is pretty simple, just enter the room, open the box and follow the clues to escape the room in the time period, or else.

"I wanted something family-friendly that anyone with Christmas spirit can enjoy," said Jeff Garner, who owns The Panic Room.

He opened the business in August after visiting an escape room in Indianapolis and after enjoying it so much, he decided to bring it to southern Illinois.

"I loved everything about it," he said. "I really enjoyed the concept, and there wasn’t really an escape room presence in southern Illinois, so I decided to see what I could do."

For the Christmas room, groups will have 45 minutes to escape, scouring the room and its decorations for clues on how to get out.

Garner said his favorite part about escape rooms is working out the puzzles with friends and said there's something for everyone.

"It's not only a fun group activity, it's also challenging," he said. "There's puzzles to figure out, there's themes, stories to the room that you have to find out whats going on to complete the room."

In addition to the Christmas room, The Panic Room also has two other escape rooms and two more planned for the near future.

Garner said he expects to have this Christmas-themed room open to the public by Monday.
