Restaurant Report Card: Improper food temps lead to low score in Franklin County

Posted: Updated:

WSIL -- We begin this week in Benton. The Franklin County inspector gave Bonz Fire Grill an 86. Two critical violations were noted.

Sausage for the buffet was not being kept hot enough. It must be at least 135 degrees. The inspector logged it at 109 degrees. Five more points were lost because a can containing cigarette butts was found in an outdoor food prep area. Food in the walk in needed to be labeled. That was a one point loss and two points were deducting for a couple of cleaning violations, including the freezer and floor.

Bandana's BBQ in Mt. Vernon received a 93 from the Jefferson County inspector. Soap was missing from the hand sink. That was a two point loss. One point was taken away as employees in the kitchen were reminded to wear hair restraints and another point was lost because some worn out or damaged food contact surfaces needed to be repaired or replaced.

In Jackson County, Longbranch Café and Bakery earned a 95. The only violation was a critical one. The five points were taken away because some cold items were not being stored cool enough. But when the inspector returned, the problem had been fixed.

The Williamson County inspector gave The Vault in a 97. Scoops without handles were being used in some areas, that was a two point loss.
