Carbondale kicks off Christmas season with Lights Fantastic Parade

Posted: Updated:

CARBONDALE -- Thousands of people lined Route 51 in Carbondale Saturday night for the Lights Fantastic Parade.

The 27th running of the event featured more than 50 floats and participating groups, which included church groups, businesses and bands, among others,  and hundreds of thousands of lights for the onlookers' entertainment.

We thought it was a great parade," said Alison Fuhrhop. "The kids really enjoyed it and they really liked all the marching bands."

She says she marched in the parade in the past, and that it was nice to enjoy it from a spectator's spot now.

"It's definitely a lot more fun to be able to sit and enjoy it than to pay attention and march in it," she said.

Among her kids favorite things was seeing Santa.

And the Williamson County Shriner's Club motor patrol left many in the crowd cheering and applauding.

Floats ranged from important issues, like domestic violence, to light-hearted fun.

Not even an appearance from the Grinch could steal the Christmas spirit for Lizzy Ellis, who was attending her first ever Lights Fantastic Parade.

"I enjoyed it, it showcased our town, Carbondale, small town, and what they're all about," Ellis said.

And many there, whether their first time or an every year tradition, say they'll likely be back.
