Murphysboro Man arrested for child porn

Posted: Updated:

MURPHYSBORO -- A Murphysboro man faces decades behind bars after police find child pornography and a marijuana-growing operation in his home.

Murphysboro Police arrested 70 year-old Eric Deutsch twice, in the last two weeks.

Police Chief Chad Roberts says, after serving a search warrant at his home November 16, officers found a marijuana growing operation with more than 20 plants, so they arrested Deutsch and seized several electronic devices.

While going through the electronic devices, Roberts says, officers found child pornography, so they arrested Deutsch again.

Now, he faces 20 new counts of possession of child pornography.

"We continued on with the investigation over the next week, week and a half, and were able to develop evidence in able to church Deutsch with possession of child pornography," Roberts said.

Deutsch's neighbors didn't want to talk on camera, but one, who has a daughter, said Deutsch usually kept to himself, but seemed friendly the few times they've talked in the decade they've lived nearby.

Another neighbor said Deutsch seemed a little bit weird, and kind of the hippie type,  so he didn't appear surprised about the weed growing operation, but says he's shocked Deutsch apparently had child pornography.

Chief Roberts hopes, by continuing to scour Deutsch's devices, officers will uncover a wider network exploiting children and bring them to justice.

"The hope is that we develop information that can lead other agencies to additional suspects," Roberts said. "Often these cases the images come from somewhere and go somewhere over the internet and that's why these task forces exist."
