SIUC chancellor explains structural changes amidst complaints from faculty and staff

Posted: Updated:

CARBONDALE -- The chancellor of SIU Carbondale has big plans for the future of the university.

Carlo Montemagno is proposing cutting the number of colleges at SIU from 8 to 5, and turning 42 departments into 16 or 17 schools, something some faculty and staff aren't happy about.

Earlier this month, the faculty senate passed a resolution opposing getting rid of the departments.

Faculty association president Dave Johnson says Montemagno made the decision without talking to them.
