Shots fired on 2nd Street in Marion

MARION -- Neighbors in Marion remain in shock, after five gunshots rang out on South Second Street.

Marion police continue searching for whoever fired those shots Sunday night around 11 p.m.

No one got hurt, but the bullet nearly missed Doris Devous, who was sitting in her living room at the time of the shooting.

"It sounded like they were really, really close, like between my house and the neighbor," added Devous.

Turns out the gunshots were closer to home than Devous originally thought.

"Took quite a chunk out of the table leg," said Devous

She can laugh about it now, but around 11 o'clock Sunday night the stray bullet could have hit her.

"Yes it could have, if it had been a little further up toward the end of the house it could have come straight at me," said Devous.

Marion police are now looking for whoever nearly hit Devous.

"We don't know what they were shooting at, if it was two cars, somebody who happened to be up on the street or the house," explained Marion Police Chief Dawn Tondini.

Police picked up four shell casings at the scene, Devous found the fifth on her rug the next day.

"It just kind of scared me all over again and I thought goodness how did it get here since there was no glass broken in the door," added Devous.

She says she hopes Marion Police catch the shooter so she can start sleeping better again.

"I'm counting my blessings, thanking God that he's protecting me. Yes, I sure do," added Devous.

If you have any information about the shooting, you're asked to call the Marion Police Department at (618) 993-2124.
