Cardinals crush SIU

Posted: Updated:

LOUISVILLE, KY -- A frigid night shooting turned into a full-fledged debacle Tuesday night as 18th ranked Louisville hammered SIU 84-42.

Neither team shot well in the first half.  The Cardinals were 11 of 35 (31%) while the Salukis hit only seven of 31 shots (27%).

Louisville led 29-18 at the half.

The second half was a different story--for the Cardinals anyway.  Louisville hit nearly 60 percent from the field, outscoring SIU 55-24 after intermission to hand the Salukis their first loss of the season.

The Dawgs finished the night shooting 27 percent from the field, missing 18 of their 21 three-point attempts.  They also committed 16 turnovers.

Armon Fletcher, who sat out Saturday's win over Illinois-Springfield with knee problems, scored 14 points and grabbed seven rebounds in 33 minutes.  Kavion Pippen was the only other Saluki in double figures with 10.

SIU falls to 2-1 on the season.  The Salukis will head back to Kentucky Saturday night to face regional rival Murray State.
