Harrisburg native Dawson Montfort heading to the World Strongman Championships

WSIL - Dawson Montfort grew up in Harrisburg before moving to Texas.  A year ago Montfort discovered strongman.

“I found a cool gym down here, found a few guys that did strongman and they asked me to start lifting with them," Montfort explained.  "So I gave it a whirl and I took to it pretty naturally.”

From there things took off. Montfort won the first competition he entered in Dallas.  Then, took the Oklahoma strongest man title in July.

Earlier this month, he competed in the National strongman championships in Las Vegas finishing third.  That finished punched his ticket to the Arnold Schwarzenegger World Strongman championship.

“I get to represent the United States at an international competition," said Montfort  "I get to meet people from all over the world. So it’s just going to be a cool experience.”

What started out as a hobby could turn into much more.

“I kind of have a natural talent in the sport, so I think my new goal is that I’d like to go professional in it,” Montfort added.

The Arnold Schwarzenegger World Strongman championship run March 1st through the 5th in Columbus, Ohio.
