Tensions over TIF in Cambria

Posted: Updated:

CAMBRIA -- Cambria has a new TIF district following a vote by the Village Board on Thursday. However, some people are concerned about the tension that has come up following the vote.

Several Cambria residents tell News 3 they support the formation of the TIF district, saying they believed it was in the best interest of the village.

However, many of them refused to go on camera, fearing their children would face problems at school, since the Carterville School District has threatened legal action against the community.

That leaves some parents like Tammy Crawford wondering about the future of the community and the school district.

"Well, I think the schools need the money. That's my personal opinion on it. They're a great school district. They've got great teachers," said Crawford.

Crawford moved her family to Cambria so her three children could go to the Carterville school district.

However, she agrees the village needs to work on its infrastructure such as roads and sewer.

"Well, I hope they get that fixed certainly," she said.

Board members say the TIF district won't have any immediate impacts.
