Sports Extra--November 10, 2017

WSIL -- We are in the transition of seasons for Sports Extra.  This Friday night we had the opening night of college basketball, but we're not quite ready to put football away for the season just yet.

In this clip you will see:

*SIU basketball opened its season with an 81-66 win at Winthrop.  Kavion Pippen led four Salukis in double figures with 15 points and ten rebounds.  Armon Fletcher, who hurt his knee earlier in the week in practice, did start and scored 14.

*The Illinois Fighting Illini opened the Brad Underwood era with a 102-55 beating of Southern University.  Mark Alstork led five in double figures with 17.

*The SIU women's basketball team tipped off its season with an 84-72 win at home against UT-Martin.  Kylie Giebelhausen led the Salukis with 25.

*A group in Cairo put together a unique fundraiser--an "old-timers" game.  Half of the proceeds will go to the junior high basketball program to help the kids buy shoes.  The other half will go toward a community chili dinner for Thanksgiving.

*Herrin and Anna-Jonesboro will try earn spots in the football state semifinals.  We preview the Tigers match up with perennial 4A power Rochester as well as the Wildcats' 3A quarterfinal match up against Vandalia.

*Saturday will be the final home game for 14 members of the SIU Football team.  We preview Senior Day against Youngstown State.
