Murphysboro's Crimson Express wraps up another successful season

Posted: Updated:

MURPHYSBORO -- The Murphysboro Crimson Express Marching Band proved their team is hard to beat.

The band competed in five field show competitions this fall and were undefeated in their class. On top of all the first place trophies, they were given several caption awards for best music, best color guard and best drum line.

The students credit 25-hours a week of practice for making them the best at the events.

"If you're not doing something regimented, you're at home practicing your own stuff, making sure you know what to do for one of those events," said drummer Jakob Ruffner.

Band Director Michael Moreland says many lessons are taught through marching band, one, is delayed gratification. He says it takes all season to see their hard work pay off.
