Anna, Dongola police departments receive money for bulletproof vests

Posted: Updated:

ANNA -- The federal government gave two police departments money for bulletproof vests.

Anna received a majority of the money: $4,000 to pay for 10 vests.

The 50-50 grant means Anna will chip in another $4,000 to cover the cost.

Anna Police Chief Michael Hunter said his department won the grant once before and this time it comes with new guidelines.

"One being a mandatory wear policy, the other one is that the vest is actually measured and fitted for each officer," Hunter said.

Dongola received $400 to cover one vest.

Police departments get to apply for the grant every five years.
