UPDATE: Illinois State Police confirm the body found near the Brookport Bridge yesterday belongs to 41-year-old Jesse Inman.

Inman went missing last Thursday following a crash that happened around midnight. Officials say he was in the car with a female before the crash. Witnesses said they heard a loud splash right after the wreck. Illinois State Police is leading the investigation.

PADUCAH -- Officials confirm a body was found near the Brookport Bridge.

The Massac County Sheriff's Department confirmed to News 3 a body was discovered in Brookport Wednesday.

Neighbors in the area said they've seen too many incidents around the bridge over the years.

"You know what to tell you the truth, I'm still scared going across the bridge," said Paducah resident Debbie Howell.

Howell crosses the Brookport Bridge almost every weekend. She calls the bridge "dangerous."

Just last week, she says a man reportedly disappeared after a car crash on the bridge. She described the incident as a mystery.

"The witnesses say, I don't know if he jumped or he fell but they heard a big splash after it happened," Howell said.

The body was found in the same area crews searched for 41-year-old Jesse Inman, who went missing last week following a crash.

So far, no one has confirmed the body belongs to Inman.

"I wish they would do something about it, there's just too many unanswered accidents as they put it," Howell said. "I wish they would put lights on it just like they do on 24. It's like you're in a room, with no windows and the lights are off, that's how dark it is."

Howell wants to see safer conditions and fewer tragedies around the Brookport Bridge. She encourages motorists to drive extra carefully on the bridge, especially at night.
