Nothing scary about this week's top score on the Restaurant Report Card

Posted: Updated:

WSIL -- There was nothing scary at the Talon Falls Food Trailer in Paducah. The food truck lost three points after being inspected in McCracken County, earning a 97.

Birdies Sports Grille in Whittington received a 68. The Franklin County inspector took away 19 total points in critical violations.

The first was because moldy and rotten food was found in the cooler. The walk in cooler was three degrees too warm and another unit was ten degrees above the required temperature. Improper hand washing practices were noted, that was also a five point loss. Four points were taken away because chocolate sauce was in a ketchup bottle and lunch meat was not being stored correctly. The violations lead to a temporary suspension of the food operations. The restaurant has fixed the problems and since resumed selling food.

The Diner in Mt. Vernon earned a 74. Two critical violations were found there. It was a five point loss because moldy celery and other food items were in the kitchen. The other was a four point deduction because flies and mouse droppings were found. Several cleaning violations were also noted, and some food was not being stored properly.

The Jackson County inspector gave IHOP in Carbondale an 88. Two critical violations were found, including a five point loss because butter and cheese were being stored at an improper temperature. The items were thrown away as a result. The other critical loss was because the dish machine was not getting hot enough to properly sanitize dishes and utensils. The problem has been corrected.

Pizza & Pasta Express in Carterville received a 92. The Williamson County inspector didn't find any critical violations during the September check, but employees were reminded to store soda bibs more than six inches off the ground. That was a two point loss. There were a handful of cleaning violations too, including the refrigerator, floor, and light shields.
