Habitat for Humanity builds new home in Murphysboro

Posted: Updated:

MURPHYSBORO -- A family has a new home in Murphysboro thanks to Habitat For Humanity.

The organization built the home for Nina Alexander and her daughter, Shekinah Hubbard.

They also held a mortgage shredding ceremony for Nina's sister Carolyn, who received a home from Habitat in Carbondale and just finished paying it off.

Habitat's local president Jamie Perryman said he loves helping out the family especially Nina's daughter.

"It's not a house, it's their home," Perryman said. "Moving forward, (Shekinah) gets to grow up here and they get to have a nice yard and a nice house and so it's very special."

"I do everything because I want to make (Shekinah's) life better, so she's really my inspiration," Nina Alexander said. "I do a lot of things because of her because she's awesome."

Habitat is looking for a family to take a new home they're building on North Carico Street in Carbondale. More information can be found at www.juchabitat.org or you can contact Perryman at (618) 457-8480.
