FBI seized more than $47,000 in property from former Zeigler treasurer

WSIL -- A new FBI document details the value of property agents seized from the home of former Zeigler treasurer Ryan Thorpe.

Thorpe is accused of stealing more than $315,000 from the City of Zeigler over four years.

Investigators say Thorpe wrote checks to himself and then altered city records.

This month, a grand jury indicted him on federal wire fraud and embezzlement charges.

When federal agents raided Thorpe's home on Aug. 24, they seized several boxes of evidence, as well as guns, off-road vehicles and motorcycles.

News 3 obtained a legal notice from the FBI, listing the value of the property seized.

It includes almost two dozen shotguns, pistols and rifles, worth more than $11,200; two off-road vehicles, valued at about $22,000; a trailer worth $6,700; and a motorcycle worth about $7,500.

Law enforcement agencies like the FBI often seize property they believe may be been obtained  through "ill-gotten gains."

In all, the items detailed in the FBI document are worth more than $47,000.

But that's only a partial list of what may have happened with the $315,000 Thorpe is accused of stealing.

More details are likely to come out in court.

Thorpe will be arraigned on Thursday morning in federal court in Benton.

News 3 contacted Thorpe, but he declined to speak about the investigation.
