Jefferson County celebrates its history

Posted: Updated:

MT. VERNON -- People in Mt. Vernon took a step back in time to look at the past at the Jefferson County Heritage Festival this weekend.

A number of craftsman came out to show off their old world skills, and they said it's not about the crafts, the demonstrations or the food: it's about making sure people don't forget history.

"They just need to see where their heritage is from and how things got started," said Linda Duncan with the Jefferson County Historical Society. "It's fun to see the ongoing things. With all the technology now, that's all [a lot of people] know, but it started way way back here with their roots."

She said she often sees younger people returning year after year to get involved in the festival.
