Storm Story Sunday 10-8-17

Posted: Updated:

WSIL -- In his time, News 3's Weather Warrior has seen 321 tornadoes touchdown. Join him for a new weekly segment where he recounts his storm-chasing stories.

I have been chasing storms for the better part of the last twenty years, having seen my first tornado in my home state of Ohio back in May of 1997.  I moved out to Colorado the following year where my career really kicked off.  I did a lot of film photography initially before I spread my chasing wings to start traveling into the Plains.  I didn't see a lot of tornadoes early on, but I had a few.

2004 was my breakout year, having documented over two dozen tornadoes during the month of May, most of them in the state of Kansas in my first season spending an extended period of time chasing.

In 2007, I was invited to join storm chaser Tim Samaras in his group called TWISTEX, where we chased together for six seasons.  We successfully deployed a variety of weather instruments in numerous tornadoes during our time together.

I moved to Illinois in 2013 where I began my career here at News 3 as the station's Weather Warrior and continuing my storm chasing.
