WSIL -- Terri Bryant will face a primary challenge in the March 2018 election.

Dr. Paul Jacobs announced his candidacy for the 115th House District on Friday.

Jacobs has been an optometrist in Carbondale for nearly 40 years. He and his wife also own Von Jakob winery.

Jacobs cites Bryant's support for a 32 percent income tax increase as one motive for him to run.

“Our families already pay the highest property taxes in the nation, which gives them the highest overall tax burden in the nation, and now we will have to pay even more,” said Paul Jacobs. “Southern Illinois needs a principled conservative leader who will listen to and support our taxpayers and stand against the Chicago political machine.”

You can read more about Jacobs on his campaign website.
