Madigan says it's time to move on from her position

Posted: Updated:

CARBONDALE -- Illinois Attorney General Lisa Madigan announced last month she will not seek re-election.

Madigan became the top Illinois prosecutor in 2003.

Next year, she will complete her fifth term as Attorney General, with a political career that spans more than 20 years.

Monday in Carbondale, she told News 3 she thinks the time has come, to move on, to something else.

"I don't know what I want to do yet, so I'll figure that out," she said. "There's a lot of work to do in the next 15 months, so I haven't made my determination yet but I'll let you all know when I do."

Her term as Attorney General ends in January of 2019.
